J.D.O.S Session for the month of May 2005

Venue: Hotel Krishna, 5 PM, High Tea session sponsored by Meditek Labs. Mumbai.

A special condolence meeting was held in remembrance of Dr. T. N. Chhattani who passed away on the 11th of May, 2005. Dr. S. C. Batalia presented an emotional obituary.

A resolution was passed to present the collective condolence of the members of the Jabalpur Divisional Ophthalmic Society to his surviving family members.

 

A two minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

The meeting was then adjourned and recalled after 5 minutes.

Session on Phacoemulsification - II (session coordinator - Dr. Shabbir Hussain)

In this session Dr. Rahul Shukla demonstrated by means of Dr. Mahatme's (Nagpur) videos, the latter's "Woodcutter" technique of phacoemulsification.

Dr. Shabbir Hussain presented his own videos on phacoemulsification highlighting the technique used by him in dealing with mature cataract, and implantation of foldable and other specialized lenses.

The session was followed by a free for all discussion on phacoemulsification.

The performance of the JDOS website over the last 6 months was presented by the Webmaster, Dr. Ravin N. Das.

The web-site (http://www.jdosmp.org) was placed on its current server on November 3, 2005 with a daily average hit-rate of 69. Now the web-site boasts a monthly average of nearly 5000 visitors.

Viagra® and its association with blindness (Dr. Ravin N. Das)

Reporting on the current news item it was found from the BBC UK web-site that 14 cases of Non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy (NA-ION) have been reported following ingestion of Viagra.

Of these, 7 cases occurred within 36 hours of taking the drug, and 7 cases within 24 hours. One case had bilateral vision loss.
